They'll be no more cake eating in this house. Yesterday my roomie Kirsty and I celebrated her being fired by walking over to The Fish House of Hackney and treating ourselves to a divine mean of Haddock and chips (Kirsty) and fish pie (me). There was white wine all round. The food was superb and reasonable too for a proper restaurant (they have a take away / shared seating area too but we wanted to live it up). My pie was topped with delicious mashed potato and cheese and I found to my delight not only cod and prawns within but mussels, squid, smoked haddock and salmon.

Anyway we had a great time but afterwards were a bit like, Dude! It's summer soon - know what I'm saying? A time of bare legs and exposed upper arms. Anyway to cut a long story short - no more fish pie.

The cake in the picture above? It's only from The Hummingbird Bakery. No big deal.

Actually it really wasn't a big deal - pretty sugary and sickly. We're spoilt for choice these days with the cakes Kirsty picks up on Broadway market. Might have to do a feature on these - raspberry clafoutis, cookie and vanilla fudge and wheat free treacle and ginger cake.

Except we're not eating cakes any more of course.

Shabby Chic

So excited about the Hackney Wick Flea Market on Saturday. This is just round the corner from me. I don't know if I'm more excited about the second hand clothes and bric-a-brack or food (mushroom burgers? Yes two please). What a perfect way to kick off a bank holiday weekend!

Can't wait to share some photos of my finds! I used to love trawling through bric-a-brack stalls at village fetes when I was a kid. Once when I was about 7 I bought my mum an electric razor thinking it was a hairdryer. Oh and one time I got a curling tong for 25p and my friends dad bought a hair dryer which later exploded in his hand.

O Hai!

Look who I found hanging out on my desk. This bodes well for my Friday afternoon. This weekends gonna be a scorcher, hoping for some fun Friday night drinking, Saturday morning coffee followed by a walk in the sun and some kind of market possibly? Also on Sunday I'm having two of my craftiest friends round for some lunch and some cider and some showing off my new home.

See you on the flip side.

Wait wait, one more thing...

Time for some new threads

The sun is SHINING and it's making me think of SUMMER and all the nice DRESSES I want to wear but sadly cannot AFFORD.

Time to bust out the old sewing machine and whip up a dress or two! I've been looking at these Vintage Vogue patterns for a while and I think I am sold on the floral one with the tie back (last pic) and am looking forward to sharpening up my dressmaking skills. Sadly there cannot be any materials purchased around hear until payday. This will give me plenty of time to cruise some fabric shops and get my ideas together.

I'll post my progress at each stage of the project just in case I learn anything useful along the way that's worth sharing.

Also, if making clothes is up your street but maybe you don't want to take on a srs bsnz dress pattern like these, take some time and browse Burda Style. This is an online sewing community type place where you can download (mostly for free) other users patterns or submit your own. It's good to be able to see the clothes on real people to help visualise how your finished product it gonna turn out in the for real. Also plenty of tutorials etc.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Get rhythm (when you get the blues)

New flat, new blog, old me. This is our desk where I sit writing this, the first post of a blog that I hope will come to reflect the many things I'm going to make and do in our new flat. By 'our' new flat I mean of course, me and my roomie the Teacup Tempest.

That's all for now.
