Late to the party

O hai! I haven't been here for a while? I've been busy and have got lots to write about...most of it terribly out of date. First - St.Patricks day. We went over to Northern Ireland the Wednesday before last to celebrate St.Patricks day in Ciaran's home town. I had never been before and the first thing that struck me was the beautiful landscape - As soon as you leave Belfast you're surrounded by rolling green hills with mountains in the distance. No sprawling grey suburbs like in England. We spent a long weekend eating huge breakfasts, walking in the fresh air, visiting the coast in Newcastle, playing the slot machines, eating ice cream and drinking far too much.

On St.Patricks day itself we walked up to St.Patrick's monument then watched the town parade before spending a rowdy evening in the pub with Irish music, Guinness and dancing. I love small town parades like this - so 'home made'. Here are a few snaps I took across the weekend.

Ah just looking at these photos brings back great memories. I was very sad to leave Ireland and felt like I had only just scratched the surface of even this small town. I'm sure I'll be going back later in the year so will be able to explore a bit more!

Do you know what else? I really don't like going back and writing about things that happened a while ago. Even really good things. Lets keep it current from now on shall we? I promise I wont leave it so long again.

Southend On Sea

On Saturday we took a day trip to Southend On Sea. It's only an hour away from London by train and has that brilliant atmosphere of a faded English seaside resort (B&Bs all along the water front, beach huts and lots and lots of amusement arcades). We had fish and chips on the waterfront in the sun, went for a nice long walk and went on the funfair rides in the rain before having a few well deserved pints. Thank you Lauren and Simon for a lovely day!
